Worst losses for a year as Taleban storm Nato outpost
Eight American soldiers and two Afghan policemen were killed, with many injured. It was the worst attack on Nato forces in 14 months, and one of the deadliest battles of the eight-year war. The insurgents seized at least 20 Afghan policemen whose fate last night remained unclear.
The attack came at a crucial juncture in the war, with President Obama soon to decide whether to accept a request by General Stanley McChrystal, commander of the 100,000-strong US and Nato force in Afghanistan, for 40,000 extra troops, or to reduce the counter-insurgency operation against the Taleban and focus on al-Qaeda.

Bomb goes off at UN office in Islamabad as Bob Ainsworth visits
The Defence Secretary, Bob Ainsworth, and the Home Secretary, Alan Johnson, visited Islamabad on Monday amid heightened security after a blast at a UN office which police said killed at least two people.
According to AFP it was a suicide attack
"It was a suicide blast," said Bani Amin, deputy inspector general of police operations, adding that the bomber managed to enter the WFP office and detonate about eight kilograms (17 pounds) of explosives.
"Three people were killed, two of them are women and one is a foreigner. All the five injured are Pakistanis," the police official said.
"We have recovered legs and the skull of the suicide bomber. We are investigating how he managed to enter inside the building. There are scanners, there are cameras and strict security arrangements."
Amin later added that the foreign victim was an Iraqi national.
